Bevel helical drives with vertical output shafts — weather-sealed, continuous outdoor duty for induced draft fans in power plants, refineries, and HVAC systems.
HVAC & Thermal Systems
AEI cooling tower gearboxes deliver robust, maintenance-free power transmission for induced draft fan drives in continuous outdoor duty. A single-stage bevel helical gear design converts horizontal motor input (900–1500 RPM) to vertical output shaft rotation at controlled speed ratios (2.5:1 to 20:1). The compact 90-degree angular transmission allows direct coupling to vertical fan rotors without additional linkages. Power range 1.5 kW to 150 kW with efficiency 90%+ across all sizes. Housing is ductile iron with epoxy coating and IP55+ sealing, resisting rain, dust, salt spray, and UV exposure. Sealed ball/roller bearings and labyrinth seals protect against water ingress during washdown or monsoon operation. Low-vibration helical engagement produces quiet, smooth operation — ideal for facilities where noise is a concern.
Engineering Design
AEI cooling tower gearboxes use a single-stage Gleason-type spiral bevel gear set to achieve compact power transmission at 90 degrees. The input pinion (smaller gear) drives the ring gear (larger gear) mounted on the vertical output shaft. Helical tooth geometry (not straight-cut bevel) produces smooth, gradual tooth engagement with continuous load distribution across multiple teeth simultaneously. This results in low vibration, quiet operation, and high efficiency (90%+) compared to straight-cut bevel designs. The spiral angle is typically 35–40 degrees, optimized for the specific speed ratio and load requirements of fan drive applications.
The gearbox housing is ductile iron (cast iron with nodular graphite structure) for superior strength and vibration damping compared to aluminum. The housing design incorporates internal baffles to isolate the oil bath from bearing cavities, allowing gears to run in continuous oil bath while bearings receive controlled lubrication through splash or circulating channels. The epoxy powder-coated exterior provides UV and corrosion resistance; stainless steel fasteners and sealed cable entry glands prevent rust in high-humidity environments. IP55+ rating ensures water and dust ingress is minimal — a critical requirement for rooftop cooling tower installation where rain washdown is frequent.
